Anna and I took a 36-hour trip up to Fraser, Colorado for our friends wedding last month and we tried to fit in as much as we could in our brief window there. We hiked in the hills, drove up mountain roads winding through bright aspen groves, and of course, checked out some spots for good eats. Here are a few recommendations and some of our favorite photos from the trip!
Best Hike Near Fraser / Winter Park
We considered a couple different trail options for a day hike but wound up going with the Columbine Lake Trail near Tabernash. It ended up being an awesome choice. It was a moderate 7 mile hike that took us into the mountains through some incredible scenery, up to a beautiful, mirror-like, mountain lake. The trail was in great shape and even on a sunny Sunday it wasn't crowded at all, I think we only passed 5 or 6 other people. If you are in the area, definitely pack a picnic and check it out!
Best Evening Entertainment in Winter Park
With one night in the area and no plans, we drove around looking for a bar to sidle up to. We wound up finding The Foundry, a fun, new, movie theater and bowling alley with a full bar and food menu. Although we didn't bowl, we did see a movie and order some of their Red Bird Drummettes, whole chicken drumsticks that are fried and slathered in buffalo sauce just like wings! Our dream! They also had wood-fired pizzas that looked pretty great.
Most Unique Bar Food Stop On The Way To Denver Airport
With some time to kill on our way to the airport we wanted to stop at one of Denver's many incredible restaurants for a quick bite. We found Rebels Restaurant in the RiNo neighborhood which was just a short jaunt off of the highway. Its a small bar with really unique decor, an extensive beer and cocktail menu, and a constantly evolving menu of interesting small plates. The menu was crazy! It looked like they were drawing influence from everything from sushi to cajun soul food to south american cuisine. We ordered Asian-style deviled eggs, pepperoni pizza pierogis, frog leg étouffé, and chicken hearts! Definitely a weird combo, but all of them were delicious.
