As some of you might have noticed, we recently changed our website format! Now, if you go up to Round The World at the top, you will see a drop down menu with three options: Journal, Trip Planning, and Food. The Journal page is where we will be posting all of our personal accounts of our journey, some posts will be long and exciting stories, some will just be brief updates, but the Journal page is the place to go to find out what we have been up to. On the Trip Planning page, we will be posting all of our tips and advice for organizing your own around the world trip - what to pack, what to budget, where to go, etc. Finally, the Food page will be a constantly updated list of everything we have eaten while traveling.
We don't have any super exciting travel news for this update, the latter half of July has been a whirlwind of family and friend visits across the North East. First, we spent a week in New York City taking advantage of all of our kind friends and hopping from couch to couch. We have mixed feelings on NYC, in that Anna adores it and I do not haha. She loves that the city never sleeps and that everyone is always hustling, where as I find it all stressful and a little overwhelming. The one thing we can both agree on is that the lack of central AC in the city is crazy! It is way too hot in the summer to have one little window unit struggling to cool an entire 2 bedroom apartment. The heat aside, we had a great week seeing all of our friends and spending too much of our budget on incredible food. You can check out the list of where we ate here.
After New York we spent a few days in both Pennsylvania and Connecticut visiting Anna's relatives. They were wonderful hosts and it was nice to get to know some of the extended family that I hadn't met before. We even got to go to her Grandfather's 90th birthday party which was quite an event, with almost 100 people in attendance. Apparently, Grandpa Don is a very popular fellow! It was also nice to get to explore parts of CT that we hadn't been to before. In Roxbury we found a beautiful walking trail and swimming hole right near the house, and in New Milford we went to a large flea market and walked around the cute downtown.
Now, we are up in Maine staying with my family on Swans Island, a small island off the coast of Mt. Desert that my parents have been visiting every summer since before I was born. The few weeks I get to spend here are some of my favorite weeks of the year. The days are full of boat rides, long hikes, and picnics on rocky beaches, and the evenings are spent reading around the fire. Check back here on the blog in the next few weeks for posts on our favorite Maine spots and, just maybe, the much-requested Anna packing post!
